
Nicholas Pettinati, RLA, ASLA is Deputy Director of Urban Design at the New York City Department of Transportation. With almost 15 years of experience, he has worked on projects ranging from bridge reconstructions to streetscape redesigns to crafting design policy for the agency. Nick has been instrumental in advancing the agency’s design standards through the Street Design Manual, El-space initiative, multiple capital projects, as well as starting and cultivating a program to maintain landscaped areas in underserved parts of the city. More recently, he has worked to establish design requirements for the permanent outdoor dining program, Dining Out NYC, including prototyping compliant roadway setups and establishing the Dining Out NYC Marketplace. In all of this work, Nick looks to center accessibility and prioritize universal design in the development of New York City streets.
In addition to his work at NYC DOT, Nick is currently an adjunct Lecturer at CUNY City College in the Architectural Technology Department. He also serves as a board member and co-chair of the Awards Committee for the American Society of Landscape Architects New York Chapter, is an advisor for TreesNY, and a Fellow of the Urban Design Forum.
