Transportation Planner

Maria Daniela Castillo is a Transportation Planner with Policy and Planning at the City of Boston. At the City of Boston, as part of the Neighborhood Planning Team, she oversees projects ranging from transit route improvements, street redesign, and tactical plaza build up and maintenance. She works with consultant teams and community organizations to understand the road users' priorities to plan street redesign alternatives, to build consensus amongst residents and neighbors, and to maintain these spaces and activate them through community events, music performances and City-led events like bike mechanics workshops. Maria joined the City of Boston in 2021 after completing a Master's in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before that, Maria worked as a Research Assistant at Boston University and the George Washington University studying the (inequitable) community health impacts of air pollution in Washington DC, the use of low-cost samplers for studying long-term local particulate matter concentrations, and the potential health benefits of climate change mitigation actions in urban settings.
