Kala Wright currently serves the Biden-Harris administration as the Director of Public Engagement for the Office of the Secretary. In that capacity, she connects with transportation stakeholders from around the country to listen, assist and advance the goals of the Biden-Harris Administration. She joined the administration as the Director of External Affairs for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in July 2021. Kala joins U.S. DOT from New York City, where she served as the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Policy and External Affairs for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. Her work in External Affairs has allowed her to connect with diverse communities of people, understand the challenges that shape their lives and craft systems of improvement. Kala has worked in public service for sixteen years. She has a degree in education from Tufts University and degree in illustration from Pratt Institute.
