Dr. Jingqin (Jannie) Gao is a Senior Research Scientist and Assistant Director of Research at the Transportation Research Center at New York University. She has served as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI on various projects funded by the federal government, the National Academies, and state and local agencies. Her expertise lies in intelligent transportation systems, data-driven policy, and urban analytics. She is best known for her research on evaluating the safety performance of the U.S. DOT Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment in New York City, double parking analysis, and AI-based transportation solutions for smart cities, including projects focused on developing smart mobility solutions for people with disabilities.

Before joining NYU, Dr. Gao worked at the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), where she specialized in modeling and data analysis to support the agency’s internal planning, technical review processes, and coordination with external agencies on regional projects. Dr. Gao was named to Who’s Who in America in Professional Women in 2023. She is also a recipient of the Dr. Louis J. Pignataro Memorial Transportation Education Award from the ITE MET Section and the National Leadership Legacy Award from the WTS-GNY Chapter in 2019.

She holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Tongji University.
