Azikiwe K. Rich was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Analytics, Performance, & Management for the New York City Department of Transportation in December 2024. In this role, Mr. Rich leads and mentors a team of 25+ data and technical professionals across three units — Performance Analytics; Public Data and 311; and GIS and Spatial Analytics — and oversees their mission to ensure that the agency utilizes metrics and performance practices to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and work processes across divisions. Under Mr. Rich’s leadership, APM continues their partnership with divisions on work related to Equity Analysis, Public Data, Performance Management Tracking and Evaluation, and overall Data Analytics. Mr. Rich also serves as NYC DOT’s Chief Performance Officer and represents the agency with the Mayor’s Office of Operations on all their reporting metrics and requirements.
Mr. Rich has been with NYC DOT since April 2014. Prior to his current position, Mr. Rich served as the Executive Director of Performance Management, where he oversaw the agency’s performance management program, including executive dashboards, data analytics, and key performance indicators. Mr. Rich’s work focused on several Mayoral initiatives such as Vision Zero, the Mayor’s Management Report, and EquityNYC.
Prior to joining NYC DOT, Mr. Rich held various roles at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget and NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, including Director of Fleet Planning and Acquisitions.
Mr. Rich is the executive sponsor of NYC DOT’s DiverseAbilities Employee Resource Group. Mr. Rich holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) from Loyola University Maryland, and a Master of Public Administration from Marist College. He serves as a member of the U.S. DOT Advisory Committee on Transportation Equity, appointed by Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and is a 2024 Transformative Justice Infrastructure Fellow.
Outside of work, Mr. Rich enjoys spending time with his family and close friends, golfing, cycling, kayaking, and writing for his men’s grooming and hygiene blog, Inside the Dopp Kit.
