Reimaging Our Streets: NYC Street Design Manual (SDM)

NYC DOT will showcase the NYC Street Design Manual (SDM), the agency's definitive guide that shapes how New York City's streets, open spaces and infrastructure are designed, built and used. Since 2009, the SDM has helped reimagine New York City's street network and public right-of-way from one designed primarily for automobiles into one that supports a greater diversity of safe, inclusive, and convenient travel modes and activities with an increasing focus on pedestrians, cyclists and community activations. The Fourth Edition of the SDM is forthcoming in November 2024 bearing the formulation of a new design principle focused on equity and derived, in part, through increased community engagement as well as the Equity in Motion Summit.
