Opening Plenary – Defining Transportation Equity
Each one of us will approach “transportation equity” differently today – as a framework, a process, or a means of service delivery – but as we start our day together, how do we begin to create a shared definition of this term? We will consider how our intersectional identities influence our lived experience of transportation equity and how a variety of perspectives should be reflected in our infrastructure projects. For example, how do we ensure that people who live in communities most affected by our work are valued as experts and have an authentic role in decision-making? How do we leverage partnerships between community, government, and the private sector to deliver equitable public space and create a sense of belonging?
